Company-Themed Stage Acoustic
This was an interesting project. It was commissioned by a local company who wanted a showpiece in the company colors, featuring their logo, for the CEO to keep around the office and play. I was given a lot of freedom in making the design choices as long as the colors and logo were right. We ended up using their logo to create the soundhole and rosette, with the name moving up the fretboard. However, since the logo needed to move into the territory of the neck, we had to get creative! There is a route-down on the treble side of the fingerboard that allowed for this, but created some serious work ensuring everything matched up in the end! Add on masking all this inlay work, and the .020" wide black pinstriping around the pearloid, and you can see how this instrument required a lot of attention to detail.
In terms of sound I could not be happier. Even though the body is only 2" deep, it is loud and bassy enough to keep up with many full-sized acoustics! You definitely would not feel lacking in volume sitting on your couch and playing it. Another great feature of note is that the K&K Pure Mini piezos are actually quite good plugged directly into an amp. Although they improve with the use of a pre-amp, it is not a requirement! Handy little trick to have up your sleeve.
